Booking.com calculates your review score from the overall scores guests give your property over the last 3 years. Guests rate their stay from 1 to 10, and each score is weighted so that more recent reviews have a bigger impact on your total score.

How the review process works

  1. Review invitation: After check-out, Booking.com emails guests to review their stay. Guests have 90 days to complete the review.
  2. Overall score: Guests choose a score from 1 to 10. This is the only mandatory question.
  3. Optional subcategory ratings: Guests can also rate cleanliness, comfort, value for money, facilities, location, and staff.

Why your overall score may not match recent comments

The overall score is not an average or a sum of the subcategory ratings. The two are independent. The overall score reflects each guest's personal impression of the whole stay, which may include factors such as general design or family-friendliness that are not rated separately.

What this means for hosts

  • Recent reviews carry more weight, so consistent quality today helps your score improve over time.
  • Older reviews have less influence as they move outside the 3-year window.
  • Subcategory ratings give useful insights but do not directly change your overall score.
