At Holidu, we want every guest to feel welcome, including guests who rely on service animals. As a host, you must accommodate these guests just as you would any other guest.

What is a service animal?

A service animal is a specially trained companion that helps a person with a disability perform daily tasks. It is not a pet.

  • Guide dogs for people who are blind or visually impaired
  • Hearing alert dogs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Seizure alert dogs for people with epilepsy
  • Assistance dogs for other disabilities

What this means for you as a host

  • No extra charges: You cannot charge pet fees or extra cleaning fees for service animals.
  • Your pet policy does not apply: Service animals are allowed even if your holiday home is not pet-friendly.
  • Full access: Service animals must be allowed in all areas open to guests.
  • No discrimination: You cannot refuse a guest because they have a service animal.

Legal framework

Under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), people with disabilities must have equal access to public and private spaces, including holiday homes. As a host in the European Union, this applies to you.
